Community Comes Together to Remember September 11

A Moving Project for All

It is important that we all remember the events of September 11, 2001. But not all of us were here on that tragic day. With 23 years having passed, there are adults who were not alive the day our world changed forever. It is up to us, the survivors of that day, to keep the memory and sacrifice alive for all future generations.

This is why Kristy Verdi, Founder of Learn and Serve Tampa made it her mission to create a service learning project kids could put together to really help them learn about the history and loss of September 11. Through her project, children in local middle schools researched, planned, and designed several iterations of the memorial placed in Land O'Lakes, Florida, on Saturday, September 7, 2024.

Sponsors of this incredible memorial include American Legion Post 108, which is in charge of storing and transporting the memorial each year; Learn and Serve Tampa, which has supplied the concept and works to engage students each year; Rosebud Continuum, which provided the venue; and FireWatch Magazine, which supported through donations.

The Community Gathers

More than 20 Vendors, several food trucks, and many volunteers showed up on Saturday, September 7, 2024, to help place 2977 placards. Each placard represents a human life lost on September 11, 2001. Students from local schools provided biographies and carefully attached them to the appropriate placard.
