Lutz Cemetery Renovation Project

For over a century, Lutz Community Cemetery has stood as a quiet guardian of our community's heritage—a final resting place for loved ones, pioneers, veterans, and neighbors who helped shape the story of Lutz. As a 100-year-old nonprofit cemetery, our grounds reflect the deep history and enduring spirit of the families who call this place home.

The Lutz Cemetery Renovation Project's mission is to preserve the legacy for future generations. This initiative focuses on revitalizing the cemetery's landscape, restoring aging monuments, improving accessibility, and ensuring that the grounds remain a respectful and peaceful place for remembrance.

We invite you to join us in honoring the past while building a lasting future. Whether through donations, volunteer work, or simply spreading the word, your support makes a difference.

Together, we can give back to a place that means so much to so many.

Lutz Cemetery Location

201-217 5th Ave NE, Lutz, FL 33549

Roads and Fencing

The Lutz Cemetery Fencing Project

Lutz Cemetery is designing a fencing system to outline the outer edges of the cemetery. The fence will consist of iron and stone. Approximately every four feet will be a columbarium niche and/or memorial marker for our K9 Heroes.

This columbarium fence line offers a dignified and permanent resting place for service dogs - honoring their loyalty and devotion. Each niche becomes a sentinel post, symbolizing the dog's eternal watch over the grounds they once protected. Through this design, their legacy of service lives on, allowing them to stand guard and serve in spirit forever, a tribute to their unwavering commitment and love.

Pervious Pavement

Lutz Cemetery Roads Project

Lutz Cemetery is planning a pervious road project. Pervious materials for roads, also known as permeable or porous pavements, allow water to infiltrate through the surface, reducing runoff and promoting groundwater recharge.

Sponsored Parks

Lutz Cemetery Sponsored Parks Project

Lutz Cemetery is planning the design and construction of various parks and sitting areas throughout the cemetery. Each park area will be sponsored by a local business, organization, or person to support cemetery beautification or to honor a loved one.

Park areas will include paver areas, bench seating, managed gardens, and flower beds.

Sponsors of Lutz Cemetery Park Areas will have a personalized plaque at the designated park site to commemorate their support.

For more information about being a Park Sponsor, contact Toni Hedstrom, Operations Manager, Lutz Community Cemetery.

Stone Restoration

Lutz Cemetery Stone Restoration

Lutz Cemetery will be working with stone masons to clean and restore headstones and monuments. The project includes creating stone section and row markers to improve the ability to locate areas of the cemetery.

Additional stone projects include renovating 'Baby Land' to feature a new monument, a seating area, and new grave markers for the precious souls laid to rest there, as well as a large paver patio area for gatherings and services.

Historian Project

Lutz Cemetery Database, Mapping, and Historian Project

Lutz Cemetery is finalizing a remapping project that integrates over 100 years of historical data into an interactive database accessible to the general public. This database allows users to locate individuals within the cemetery, review their history and genealogy, and share stories about their lives and impact on the world.

The Historian Project will involve Lutz Cemetery volunteers meeting with families who have loved ones buried at Lutz Cemetery to learn about their histories and the history of Lutz, Florida.

Through a partnership with The American Legion Post 108, an extensive database of veterans and service members laid to rest at Lutz Cemetery will be compiled, in an effort to keep their memories and service alive for generations to come. Projects to honor veterans within our cemetery include flag placement on Memorial Day and Veterans Day each year, as well as our annual Wreaths Across America ceremony in December.

Signage and Markings

Lutz Cemetery Signage and Markings Project

Lutz Cemetery is designing new signage to include visitor check-in locations and mapping locator locations within the cemetery.

Visitors to Lutz Cemetery will be able to access a digital mapping system, enabling them to search the cemetery database and locator by name to easily find their loved ones. The digital system will also enable users to input information, historical data, photos, memorabilia, or any other asset on behalf of their loved one. This information will be included in the Historian Project and Cemetery Historical Database.
